Former pro alpine skier Georgia Simmerling and longtime Team Canada goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé are adding a new chapter to their Olympic power couple story.
On Thursday, the Canadian athletes took to Instagram to announce some exciting news: they’re expecting twins.
“Over the moon with excitement to welcome not one but two Simmerbè bebes in April,” Labbé wrote in the caption of a photo showing her and Simmerling holding ultrasound pictures while embracing.
“I guess now we don’t have to choose between soccer and skiing (okay cycling’s pretty cool too),” she added, joking about the kids’ athletic futures.
The announcement was met with an outpouring of love from the sports world.
“Eeeeeeee omg CONGRATS mammas!” Olympic beach volleyball player Heather Bansley commented.
“Wow! Congrats, you two!” wrote Swiss freestyle skier Fanny Smith.
“Hearts are exploding with happiness,” added Canadian gold medalist Kelsey Serwa.
Plenty of Labbé’s former Women’s National Team teammates also joined in, with Evelyne Viens, Jayde Riviere, Shelina Zadorsky, and Desiree Scott sharing their congratulatory messages under the post.
Between them, Simmerling, 35, and Labbé, 38, boast an impressive collection of Olympic and professional achievements. Simmerling, a multi-sport athlete, earned Olympic bronze in cycling at Rio 2016, becoming the first Canadian athlete to compete in a different sport at each of three different Olympic Games.
Labbé, meanwhile, won bronze at the same Games, followed by a gold medal at Tokyo 2020 and an NWSL Championship with her club in 2019.
Both retired from pro sports, the couple, who began dating in 2017 and got engaged in 2022, can now look forward to an even bigger challenge: parenthood.
