Two Alberta spots named on prestigious world’s best restaurants list

We love to see Canada’s impressive culinary scene being showcased on an international stage, and several spots have just been recognized on La Liste’s World’s Best Restaurants selection for 2025.

La Liste, an awards program that is based in France, released its annual selection of the Top 1000 restaurants around the world.

While restaurants in hotspots such as Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal were selected, there was also an impressive showing from Alberta, with two restaurants recognized on the list.

The highest-ranking restaurant in Alberta is Eden at The Rimrock Resort in Banff, with a score of 83.50. It was joined on the list by Calgary’s River Cafe, which also secured its place with a score of 76.00.

Once again, the highest-ranking Canadian spot overall was Toronto’s Alo, which scored 95.50.

What is the Methodology?

La Liste touts itself as the “most selective global guide of restaurants, pastry shops and hotels” and uses a rigorous scoring process to make its final selections.

Reviews from over 1,000 guidebooks and trusted publications are compiled in a database and given a standardized grade between zero and 100. To determine the legitimacy of each of the guidebooks, several thousand chefs are also consulted to determine how trustworthy they are, creating a “trustworthy index.”

The average scored by each restaurant and hotel is then calculated using the standardized grade and weighted by each source’s “trustworthy index.” Online customer reviews are also integrated into the result, with a 10% weighting in the final score.
