If you’re a young person in Edmonton on the hunt for a job, three local companies just made the list of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People.
Mediacorp recently unveiled its annual list of the nation’s best workplaces for young people beginning their careers. Winners are selected by the editorial team at Canada’s Top 100 Employers based on programs and initiatives designed to attract and retain younger employees.
These include benefits such as tuition assistance, co-op or work-study programs, mentorship opportunities, and training programs, such as bonuses for completing trades or professional certifications.
Edmonton-based companies PCL Construction, AIMCo, and Epcor earned their spots on the list for a variety of reasons, including:
PCL Construction was recognized as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for its strong focus on supporting and developing early-career professionals. Through the PCL Student Program, students receive guidance and feedback from both a supervisor and a dedicated buddy while gaining hands-on experience during their four to 16-month term.
The company also offers intensive leadership programs, such as the Accelerated Superintendent Development Program and the Accelerated Estimating and Construction Risk Management Program, which help early-career employees build technical expertise, identify leadership strengths, and develop mentoring relationships.
Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) was selected for its comprehensive programs for new graduates. AIMCo offers entry-level initiatives that provide exposure to various business areas, including a recently launched 18-month investment management program with rotations across three of its asset classes: fixed income, real estate, private equity, and mortgages.
For students pursuing their Chartered Professional Accountant designation, AIMCo runs a 30-month rotational training program that gives participants hands-on experience in departments like corporate finance, real estate, valuations, and internal audit.
Additionally, AIMCo supports new graduates by offering student loan repayment assistance for roles directly related to their education. Employees may receive up to $12,000 over three years to help pay off loans.
Edmonton’s utilities company was recognized as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for its commitment to fostering growth and providing opportunities for early-career professionals. The company offers an engineer-in-training program for recent engineering graduates, featuring hands-on assignments, mentorship from experienced engineers, and regular feedback and evaluations.
Epcor supports skill development through job rotation programs, formal mentorship opportunities, and access to over 200 internal courses focused on building technical and interpersonal skills.
Additionally, Epcor partners with CAREERS: The Next Generation to help underrepresented students gain work experience and explore career paths within the organization. They also support the Edmonton Urban Indigenous Youth Career Pathways program, creating opportunities for Indigenous students and youth.
