Collectors know that the Royal Canadian Mint carries many unique coins, and its newest offering is made for puzzle lovers and fans of the Big Apple.
The 400 Years New York City 4 oz. Fine Silver Coin features different pieces that, when shifted, uncover the history of the Empire City.
According to the Mint, the commemorative coin marks the arrival of the first settlers on the island of Manhattan in 1624 and pays homage to 400 years of the city’s history and culture.
What makes this coin special is not just its intricate artwork but the 24k gold-plated puzzle pieces that reveal New York’s historic landmarks.
On the front of the coin, you’ll be able to spot Times Square, the Empire State Building, Central Park, and Wall Street, surrounding the Statue of Liberty.
But the real magic happens when the four gold pieces are moved and reveal the iconic landmarks that stand out at each of those locations, such as the Charging Bull, yellow taxis, and a horse-drawn carriage.
While the Mint often features Canadian coins, this coin’s country of origin is Barbados and has a face value of $5.
It also has an extremely low mintage of 400, making it a rare piece to add to your collection. This coin does come with a hefty price tag, as it retails on the Mint’s website for $699.95.
Currently, the Mint says it’s “awaiting stock” for this new piece to arrive, and we’ve reached out to see when it will be available.
This past year, the Mint released several intricate collector items such as the stunning 3D “howling wolf” coin and the “Dragonfly and the Bloom” that features a 3D dragonfly and waterlily on its reverse.
