Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid made history this season, becoming the fourth-fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points.
It took him 659 games to reach that milestone, with only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Mike Bossy being faster. It’s an accomplishment that no other player currently in the NHL could imagine, and the Oilers will honour McDavid for it before a game next month.
The team announced plans for a special pre-game ceremony to honour this amazing accomplishment when the Columbus Blue Jackets come to town on December 5.

As is tradition for any player who hits the 1,000-point milestone, McDavid will be presented with a custom-made gold stick and a commemorative Tiffany diamond. He will be joined by his family, including his wife Lauren, and a special video tribute will be played for everyone in Rogers Place to enjoy.
It will certainly be a night that Oilers fans won’t want to miss, as it’s a rare opportunity for fans to focus all their attention on their captain and shower him with the praise he deserves for hitting such a monumental milestone.
McDavid currently sits at 1,010 career NHL points, all of which were scored with the Oilers. This places him fourth all-time in Oilers history behind Gretzky, Mark Messier, and Jari Kurri. The expectation is that McDavid will surpass Kurri’s total of 1,043 later this season to move him into second all-time behind only Gretzky.
After that, the pursuit will be to catch The Great One’s total of 1,669 and stand all alone at the top of the Oilers’ record books.
