Usually, Gene Principe is the one asking questions on the Edmonton Oilers broadcast, but this time, they decided to switch things up.
Principe, who has served as the Oilers host on Sportsnet for many years, has become a fan favourite in Edmonton due to his sense of humour and quick-witted puns. This time, camera crews chose to have several Oilers players asking Principe questions, and it didn’t disappoint.
Corey Perry, Darnell Nurse, Mattias Ekholm, and Connor Brown all asked questions, most touching on hilarious topics. Perhaps the best of all, however, came from Ekholm, who asked Principe how he’s able to stay so positive all the time. The 57-year-old gave a phenomenal answer in response.
“Mattias, I think that’s the most important thing that we need in sports, and in life, is to be positive,” Principe said. “It’s easy to find and discuss negatives, but that’s just not the kind of person I am. I’m about building positivity and injecting life and good feelings into sports and into all the Oiler fans who watch you on Sportsnet.”

One of the funnier questions came from Brown, who asked Principe what he does to keep his hair looking the same every day. To no surprise, he offered another great answer and was sure to include a pun.
“Connor, I use all kinds of gel. I’ve tried mousse before, and it just doesn’t work,” Principe said. “That’s what I generally use, and sometimes fans can be a bit jeal-ous about my hair. It definitely ends up being a topic of conversation, sometimes for the good, sometimes not so much for the good.”
Principe being such a good sport throughout this video is a big part of what makes him so beloved by Oilers fans, many of whom will be hoping to see similar segments of him answering questions like this in the future.
