The Edmonton Oilers have gone outside the box with a new line of player-focused fan merchandise — and the players themselves are the models.
While we have already seen Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner show off his modelling chops earlier this season with a new endorsement, this line of official Oilers merch had players like Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman step in front of the camera.
This isn’t your run-of-the-mill Oilers merch, either. The team’s design crew came up with some pretty creative designs that are sure to get a chuckle out of the fanbase.
Political elections are perhaps one of the most stressful things that people can endure, but the Oilers are trying to change that. One of the best pieces of this new merch line features a 2024 campaign logo for a ticket of Connor McDavid and Draisaitl. The tagline of the logo is, fittingly, “Let’s Go Oilers” and was modelled by Draisaitl himself, who must be fishing for some extra votes.
There is no doubt that this kind of ticket would do well in Edmonton polls.
One of the most bizarre stories to come out of last season’s run to the Stanley Cup Final may have been the unexpected friendship between Hyman and NBA legend Shaquille “Shaq” O’Neal. The two traded signed jerseys with one another and Hyman was even given the nickname of “Shaq Hyman.”
It seems like that nickname was enough of a hit with the Oilers to produce some official merchandise based on it. Hyman looked good while modelling it, as well.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the longest-tenured player on this Oilers team, also got in on the modelling fun. His shirt takes inspiration from both his nickname of “Nuggie” from his teammates as well as the once-popular Cali Swag District song “Teach Me How to Dougie” that came out in 2010.
Put it all together, and you got “Teach Me How to Nuggie.”
All three of these shirts are available online or in person at Ice Districts Authentics right outside Rogers Place, but they won’t be cheap. Each of these shirts is currently retailing for $54.99 making them a little more expensive than your average shirt.
While it may not be within everyone’s price range, you have to appreciate the creative designs and the Oilers’ modelling skills.
