In fitting fashion, Connor McDavid was able to record his 1,000th point in a game that the Edmonton Oilers won by a 3-2 final.
Everyone at Rogers Place hoped to see the Oilers captain reach 1,000, and were hopeful the team could pick up a win on what would be a historic night. Both were able to come true.

Though Nurse ultimately played hero, it was McDavid getting all the recognition after this one had wrapped up, and rightfully so. He received all three stars of the game, and shortly after it ended, the Oilers released an awesome video featuring a mic’d up Leon Draisaitl, who was over the moon to see his friend and teammate reach the major milestone.
Ride or die, baby 😌 Of course we had Leon mic’d up for Connor’s 1,000th @NHL point. #LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/qS3TqwlIOU

“Yaaaaaaa, one thousand!” Draisaitl can be heard shouting. “Love you man.”
It was very fitting, of course, that it was Draisaitl who earned the primary assist on McDavid’s 1,000th point, as the dynamic duo have racked up plenty together over the years. Once the game had ended, Draisaitl’s excitement level remained at an all-time high.
“It’s a special moment. I said it the other day, but this is legendary stuff,” Draisaitl said. “To witness that, to be a part of it, and to have seen him grow up from when he was 18, when we first met, it’s pretty cool. Pretty amazing to be a part of.
“We needed to win this game. Obviously would have liked to have tightened that last play up a little bit, but [it] was a good ending for us.”
In typical McDavid fashion, he wasn’t done with just one point on the night, as he also had the assist on Darnell Nurse’s overtime winner.

“Some of these things have actually hit me more emotionally than I would have thought,” McDavid admitted afterward. “You spend your whole life playing hockey and loving the game, just wanting to play and make the NHL. One thousand points later and doing it for 10 years now, it’s pretty special. You take it for granted sometimes, and these moments give you a chance to look back and be grateful.”
McDavid admitted earlier in the week that it would be somewhat of a relief to get his 1,000th point out of the way given all the attention it’s gotten, and now that he’s been able to do that, he can simply focus on helping his team rack up wins again.
Speaking of that, the Oilers have now won three in a row after what was a rather slow start to the season, and will look to make it four tomorrow night versus the Toronto Maple Leafs.
