Edmonton Oilers fans shouldn’t expect Evander Kane to make his season debut anytime soon.
Kane underwent a series of procedures in September to repair hernias, torn abductors, and lower abdominal muscles. The injuries all stemmed as a result of playing through a sports hernia throughout the 2023-24 season.
The injuries worsened as time went on, resulting in Kane being a healthy scratch numerous times in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The hope was that he could heal without surgery over the offseason, but that failed to be the case.
We haven’t heard much regarding Kane’s status as of late, though that changed today when head coach Kris Knoblauch was asked about a potential return. Based on his response, it appears the rugged forward still has a ways to go in his recovery.
“He’s going to be awhile with his injury recovery,” Knoblauch said. “You’re not going to see or hear anything for at least a month.”
That said, Kane has still been around his teammates, as he is at Rogers Place often getting further treatments.
“He’s got a schedule that he comes in on certain days and gets treatment,” Knoblauch explained. “Whether we’re on the road or we’re at home. He’s coming in several times a week and getting that treatment.”
Despite battling injury last season, Kane was still productive with 24 goals in 77 points. His goal-scoring ability, along with his physical presence, has been missed by the Oilers at times this season.
There is some good news for the Oilers on the injury front, as Viktor Arvidsson appears to be making progress with an injury that has held him out of the lineup for 11 games. Knoblauch told reporters yesterday that the 31-year-old has been skating on his own, and is hopeful to be back practicing with the team later this week.
