McDavid’s dog stole the show during Oilers pre-game ceremony

The Edmonton Oilers took some time to honour Connor McDavid, scoring his 1,000th point before last night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets—but all anybody could talk about was his dog.

McDavid was joined by his parents, Brian and Kelly, as well as his wife, Lauren, during the ceremony. He was gifted a custom Tiffany diamond from Oilers GM Stan Bowman and a beautiful golden stick from his former agent, turned Oilers CEO, Jeff Jackson, to commemorate the achievement.

It was a beautiful ceremony and one that motivated the Oilers to a dominant 6-3 victory over the Jackets. Yet, the show was thoroughly stolen by Lenard, McDavid’s beloved bernadoodle, who was as lively as ever, was also on the ice and received a golden bone to match his dad’s new stick.

Although Lenard was fairly hesitant about the bone going around his neck, as Leon Draisaitl found out during the ceremony.

“To see Lenny always makes me smile,” McDavid said after the game. “He’s a great dog, definitely part of the family, that’s why he’s out there.”

McDavid was firing on all cylinders on the ice last night as well, picking up four assists to move his point total up to 35 which propels him up into a tie for seventh in the NHL.

That wasn’t the only thing that Lenard did. He also made an appearance on TV as beloved beat reporter Gene Principe was able to incorporate him and Lauren into an intermission segment.

Lauren told Gene just how much Lenny means to the McDavid family.

“We just have a lot of treats in the pocket making sure he’s good,” Lauren joked. “It means so much for us that he got to be part of this moment.”

Lenny has shown in the past that he takes after his speedy father. He won the Oilers Pup Relay in 2022 during the team’s skills competition, but he came up a little short last season, losing to Cody Ceci’s French Bulldog Hugo.

It’s safe to say that if McDavid ever winds up winning the Stanley Cup, we should be expecting plenty of Lenny content to go along with that.
