Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has answered a lot of questions from the media throughout his career.
As one of the league’s best players and the captain of an iconic team like the Oilers, McDavid garners much more media attention than the average NHLer. Despite being under the spotlight, he has handled the attention superbly and manages to give answers to just about every question that comes his way.
However, he was feeling just a tad bit sassy after Oilers practice this morning. After answering a trio of questions about the team’s recent play, McDavid decided to have fun with the crowd of reporters swarming him in the locker room.
“I feel like all the questions have been the same today,” McDavid said with a laugh. “You guys are trying to make a story here.
“We’re playing pretty well, and we’re playing some good teams this week, and it’ll be a good test… is that it?”
“I like how we’re playing. Finding ways to score some goals is big & been solid defensively. I thought special teams is starting to go, goalies are making saves. It’s all positive stuff.”

Luckily, this seemed to be a moment that everyone involved seemed to enjoy, and it elicited a bunch of laughter from the reporters as well. It’s a nice change of pace for McDavid to have some fun with the media.
Usually, it’s Leon Draisaitl handing out the sass during media avails. He had that infamous spat with Hall of Fame reporter Jim Matheson in 2022 and, more recently, had some fun with reporters complaining about the long flights between Edmonton and Florida during the Stanley Cup Final.
When you are under the spotlight as much as the Oilers are, spats between the media and players are sure to arise every once in a while. At the end of the day, it appears everybody got a laugh out of the situation.
Fans will also love that they have one thing in common with McDavid, which is a beef with the local media.
