Hot sauce is truly having a moment, and one Edmonton creation was just declared as a sauce that’s worth hopping on a plane for.
Food writer Twyla Campbell nominated Lessig Ferments’ Strawberry Basil Bomb as one of Air Canada’s sauces “worth flying for.”
According to Lessig Ferments, the hot sauce features BC strawberries, habanero, and Prairie Garden herbs to round out its Caribbean-inspired profile.
Campbell said the hot sauce is “ridiculously flavourful but also versatile.”
“Use it to dampen the rim of your glass for the salt of a strawberry margarita. Also, a few drops on raw oysters or any seafood crudo is a brilliant move,” she said.
The YEG-based brand, which specializes in fermented hot sauces, beer vinegar, and other condiments, was established by chefs Roger Letourneau and Christine Sandford.
Among the other Canadian highlights on the list is Holy Duck’s Chili Oil.
If you’re keen to get your hands on the sauce, Lessig Ferments products are available in person at several Edmonton-based retailers and online.
