Strathcona Spirits is grateful for the support it’s received after a “significant” fire at the distillery this week.
At around 10:16 am on Wednesday, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) responded to reports of an explosion near the distillery. Fire crews arrived four minutes later and found a fire at the back of Strathcona Spirits. By 10:30 am, EFRS had the fire under control, and it was declared out by 11:23 am.
“Today, four days after our eighth birthday as Edmonton’s first distillery in history, we suffered a significant fire,” the company said in a post on Instagram.
One staff member was taken to hospital with injuries but has since been treated and released and is said to be comfortable at home.
The distillery described the blaze as “devastating” for its little operation but shared its appreciation for the immense support and concern from the community.
“We’d also like to extend huge thanks to Edmonton Fire for their support and quick response, as well as our neighbours for coming to the rescue immediately.”
Although the distillery is temporarily closed, it noted inventory wasn’t affected, and same-day shipping is still available.
Free delivery is being offered on orders over $125, and details on alley-access pick-up hours will be announced soon.
