Krispy Kreme is set to open its highly anticipated new location in Edmonton, and if the sneak peek we got is any indication, this donut giant is bound to be a massive hit.
The American donut chain will officially open its doors at 4614 Gateway Boulevard NW on December 10. We checked it out ahead of the grand opening and can confidently say that we’ll be back for more donuts.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a team of cheerful staff serving up Krispy Kreme’s iconic Original Glazed donuts. It brought us back to 20 years ago when Krispy Kreme first entered Western Canada, and we’ve been craving those donuts ever since its departure.
Now that it’s back, however, biting into those melt-in-your-mouth pastries was just as decadent as we remembered.
The bright and inviting 4,600-square-foot store features one of Krispy Kreme’s signature Doughnut Theatres, where guests can watch the donut-making process and even try a hot one straight off the line. From start to finish, we watched as the donuts were proofed, gently fried, and finally coated in a shower of glaze.

A massive “Hot Now” light signals when fresh donuts are being made. The shop’s convenient location on Gateway Boulevard ensures the light will draw in anyone seeking warm, soft, and delicious treats.
In addition to the classic Original Glazed, you’ll find flavours like Chocolate Cake, Powdered Strawberry, Chocolate Iced Custard Filled, Maple Iced, and many more.
The store also offers a variety of drinks, including coffee, hot chocolate, and iced lemonades.

To celebrate the grand opening of the first Edmonton store, Krispy Kreme will give a free Original Glazed donut to those in line, and customers will have a chance to take home exclusive merch.
Krispy Kreme will also give away 12 Golden Tickets, which can be redeemed for a free dozen Original Glazed donuts every month for an entire year.
If the opening of Edmonton’s first Chick-fil-A earlier this year is anything to go by, we’re expecting big lines. However, whoever is lucky enough to be first in line will be given the honour of turning on the location’s Hot Light for the very first time.
