How to watch tonight’s Oilers-Panthers game that’s not on regular TV

The Edmonton Oilers are back in action tonight as they prepare to face the Florida Panthers in a Stanley Cup Final rematch.

It’s the first time these two teams have met since the Panthers came out victorious in Game 7 of the Final last June. It’s one of the most hotly anticipated games of the regular season for the Oilers, but fans at home will not be able to watch on Sportsnet.

Instead, the game will be streamed on Amazon Prime as part of the streaming service’s Monday Night Hockey program this season.

Fans will need an Amazon Prime subscription to watch tonight’s game, which costs either $9.99 per month or $99 for an entire year.

The broadcast will feature a few interesting things for fans that are not usually offered on Sportsnet broadcasts. For one, there will be a livestream of the arena 40 minutes before the game is scheduled to start, giving fans a feel for the arena atmosphere and a front-row seat of the pre-game warmups.

John Forslund will be on the play-by-play call while ex-NHLers Thomas Hickey, Jody Shelley, and Shane Hnidy will act as analysts. Andi Petrillo, Adnan Virk, and Blake Bolden will anchor the sports desk between intermissions.

Both teams will have something to prove in tonight’s game outside of the obvious rematch. The Oilers are looking for their sixth straight victory and to break a bizarre curse that has held them scoreless in their two other games broadcast on Amazon Prime.

The Panthers, on the other hand, are coming off two straight shutout losses against the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames. They will be hungrier than usual for goals when the puck drops at Rogers Place.

The game is set a little earlier than usual for an Edmonton match, with puck drop scheduled for 6:30 pm MT.
