Here’s when skating rinks in Edmonton could open for the season

Winter is making its presence felt in Edmonton this week, and the City is gearing up to open our favourite seasonal activities.

With a stretch of chilly weather and up to 25 centimetres of snow expected over the weekend, we reached out to the City of Edmonton to find out when outdoor skating rinks might open for the season.

According to the City, the bone-chilling temperatures have created ideal conditions for flooding, and water trucks are now on site.

“There should be some good progress made on building ice thickness that will hopefully allow us to open ice at a good time range this year,” a spokesperson told Daily Hive.

“We are aiming to have the ice open in early December.”

Skating rinks opened on December 8 last year.

In the meantime, the City of Edmonton’s website provides details about outdoor skating surfaces, pavilion hours, and current ice conditions.
