After a life-changing lottery win, one Canadian couple is that much closer to achieving their dream of becoming homeowners.
Gordon Firman and Sor Dennis of Burlington, Ontario, have played the lottery together for four years. They buy Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 tickets once or twice a week. The couple said they always saw playing the lottery as “a way of giving back to our community” — even if they didn’t win, at least communities in Ontario would benefit from it.
Firman and Dennis said they often enjoy long drives, stopping in different communities to see the sights and have a meal.
During one of these trips, Firman stopped for gas while Dennis purchased their weekly Lotto Max ticket. After the draw, Dennis decided to check the results.
“I used the ticket checker to see how we did on our Lotto Max ticket,” recalled Dennis. “I immediately started to shake and felt as though I was going to faint. Gordon started tearing up. We were both overwhelmed with happiness.”
The pair had won a $500,000 Maxmillions prize in the October 15, 2024, Lotto Max draw. While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim their winnings, they said the windfall brought them closer to achieving their dream.
“We’ve dreamt of homeownership, and this win will help us realize that dream,” they said. “We’d also like to visit family in Thailand.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Esso/Circle K on Walkers Line in Burlington.
