Netizens are applauding Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his reaction to being called the “governor” of the “Great State of Canada.”
US President-elect Donald Trump drew mixed reactions after taking a jab at Trudeau amid tariff tensions.
On Tuesday, Trump appeared to mock the prime minister in a post on Truth Social, referring to him as “governor.”
“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada,” reads the post. “I look forward to seeing the governor again soon so that we may continue our in-depth talks on tariffs and trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!”
His comments came hours after Trudeau said Canada would respond to the president-elect’s threat of slapping a 25% tariff on products coming into the US from Canada.
While in Vancouver, Trudeau chatted with TikTok content creator @ashleymariem2 at The Granville Island Toy Company.
“As the newly appointed governor of Canada, what are your plans for the American education system?” asks Ashley.
Trudeau laughs and says, “I’m not going to touch that one right now.”
In the caption, Ashley wrote, “Thank you, Prime Minister, for answering this with all the levity it deserves!”
The nine-second video currently has over 300,000 views.

Several netizens praised Trudeau for his sense of humour.
“Congratulations, Trump — you’ve found a way to unite so many Canadians and back our Prime Minister,” observed one viewer.
“Refreshing to see a leader with a sense of humour,” stated one commenter.
Another said, “Okay, this was gold 😹😹😹.”
“I don’t agree with most of his actions, but those aside, he does have a sense of humour, and that’s pretty cool,” one person stated.
“Say what you will, PMJT has a great sense of humour 😂,” another added.
Other Canadians appeared to be able to set their opposing political views aside.
“Politically, do I like him? No… but he is extremely charismatic and deals with questions like this very well,” observed one viewer.
One person wrote, “Not sure I think he did a great job as PM, but I still love him as a person.”
But not everyone saw the humour in the situation.
One viewer stated, “He should have been outraged being called that.”
Another stated, “We don’t want him even as governor of anything.”
“He’s not going to touch that one?” one commenter asked. “Just like he has not touched any issues that Canadians need support with in the last 10 years.”
One person wrote, “That’s because he knows we’d never have him as a governor!!!!!”
Several Americans hopped on the comments, with one stating that they miss former President Barack Obama.
One commenter wrote, “So that’s what a charismatic leader looks like. I miss Obama 😢.”
Another agreed, stating, “I love that he at least has a sense of humour. Because we are crying here in the US. Can Hawaii join Canada?”
One had a message to Canadians, “I apologize on behalf of the normal US citizens 🥺.”
