An Ontario lottery player has two things to celebrate — a major lottery win and a newborn granddaughter.
Ajax resident Karen Garner won the $99,588.30 Lotto Max second prize in the November 26, 2024 draw.
The marketing specialist has been playing the lottery with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for more than 30 years.
She plays Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 a couple of times a month, using OLG’s Quick Pick feature to make her selections. This is the mother and grandmother’s first big win.
“I was out shopping when I decided to check my tickets. Little did I know, I was in for a huge surprise,” Garner said while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her winnings. “All I could say was, ‘Oh gosh!’ It was a surreal moment.”
She shared the amazing news with those closest to her.
“I shared the incredible news with my son, my sister, and a few friends. Everyone was so happy for me,” she smiled.
And Garner has important plans for her lottery windfall.
“I was thinking about my new granddaughter who was born in October. It feels amazing knowing I can spoil her a little,” she giggled. “I’ve always believed that good things happen to good-hearted people.”
She also plans to go on a cruise, buy new furniture and save for a rainy day.
Garner bought the winning lottery ticket at Shoppers Drug Mart on Lawrence Avenue East in Scarborough.
