A big family vacation to a tropical destination is in the cards for one family after a pair of Albertans netted a $2,000,000 Western 6/49 draw.
Theresa Bourdeau and Charles King of High River told the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) that Bourdeau was keeping busy while her partner (King) was napping and decided to scan their ticket on the Lotto Spot app.
“Oh boy, I probably checked it eight times!” she laughed while speaking to the WCLC. “I thought it said two thousand, so I was happy, but I didn’t want to wake him.”
When King finally woke, Bourdeau was bursting to tell him the good news, erroneously telling him they had won $2,000.
King decided to take a look at the ticket and soon realized the mistake she’d made.
“He took a look and said, ‘Well, there’s no $2,000, but there is $2 million!’” Bourdeau said. “I was just shocked!”
The High River winners say they did a jig around their kitchen island in excitement.
The two share a business, kids, and grandkids and are excited to spend more time on the latter — with one big idea already in mind for what to spend some of their windfall on.
“We’ve started talking about a big family vacation!” Bourdeau beamed. “We’ll probably go back to Jamaica, where our kid got married.”
“Most of all, we can both officially retire now!” King added. “It feels shocking and over the top!”
Bourdeau and King purchased their winning Western 6/49 ticket from Rexall at 139 5 Avenue SW in High River. They won their prize by correctly matching all six of the numbers selected in the October 5 Western 6/49 draw: 9, 13, 36, 37, 41 and 42.
