If you’re unhappy with your current provider’s internet speed and want to switch, a new report can help you make your next choice.
Ookla released its latest report on the performance of Canadian telecom giants’ mobile and fixed networks.
The results are based on data from Speedtest, a site created by Ookla that allows users to test their internet speed.
“Our reports are informed by millions of daily consumer-initiated tests taken on Speedtest, along with quality of experience (QoE) metrics that offer insight into the daily connected activities that matter most to end-users,” reads the report.
The findings are based on data collected from July to December 2024 and the fastest carrier is chosen based on each provider’s download and upload speed.

Fastest fixed internet speed
You shouldn’t have to compete for fast internet access at home. Whether you’re taking work video calls at home or streaming Netflix to unwind in the evening, you’ll need a good fixed internet provider to handle the load.
Ookla’s report found that Bell pure fibre had the best fixed network, outpacing competitors not only on internet connectivity and speed, but also on video and gaming experiences.

Its overall connectivity score on Speedtest was 84.32, and its speed score was 356.47, putting it way ahead of Rogers and Telus PureFibre.

When it comes to the most consistent network, there was no clear winner.
Bell, Rogers and Telus were neck and neck with scores ranging from 91.2 per cent to 94.5 per cent.
However, Bell pure fibre was the top-rated internet provider in Canada from July to December 2024 based on consumer sentiment, scoring 3.58 out of five stars.
Fastest mobile data provider

According to Ookla, Bell Mobility was the fastest mobile data provider in Canada during the data collection period. It got a speed score of 104.34, recording a median download speed of 99.2 Mbps.
Telus and Rogers follow far behind with speed scores of 98.72 and 83.6, respectively.

Bell also took the top spot for the fastest 5G network with a speed score of 144.36. Telus was in second place with a speed score of 124.39, and Rogers took last place with a 100.98 speed score.

When it came to being the most consistent mobile network, Telus beat out Rogers and Bell, scoring 84.9 per cent on consistency.
As for the mobile video experience, no provider came out on top. Bell Mobility slightly edged out Telus and Rogers for the best mobile gaming experience in Canada, with a game score of 86.21.
