Alberta has just revealed the most popular baby name in the province in 2024, and one name has continued its reign.
The results are according to the Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction department, and the list of the most popular girls’ and boys’ names is compiled from the birth information provided by parents and registered by the department for a particular year.
Noah was the top baby boy name for Albertans in 2024, with 243 babies receiving that name, while Olivia made the top of the list for baby girl names at 183.
Charlotte, Amelia, Sophia, and Emma were among the top five most popular names for baby girls, while Oliver, Liam, Theodore, and Henry rounded out the top five choices for baby boys.
The province added that some parents seem to have been inspired by the natural beauty of Alberta with names like Cedar, Hope, and Prairie.
“Some parents seemed to take notes from mother nature and found inspiration from animals in names like Bear, Fox, Jaguar, and Sora, while others looked to the night sky, choosing names such as Celestial, Cassiopeia, Andromeda, and Orion. Among the new arrivals are names that express joy and aspiration, like Serenity, Hope, Heavenly, Blessing, and Bliss, while others are practically meant to sparkle on the Stampede big screen, like Rowdy, Shooter, and Stryder,” it added.
More than 50,000 births were registered in Alberta in 2024. Parents have up to one year to register their child’s birth. As a result, the list of 2024 baby names and birth statistics may change slightly.
