Police in standoff with suspect in Alberta city after shots fired at officers

Police in Camrose, Alta. have been engaged in a standoff with a person in a home since Thursday afternoon.

Around 5:45 p.m. officers received several 911 calls about shots being fired in the area of 42 Street and 52 Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they say the suspect fired several shots at officers.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents in the immediate area.

Officers established a containment zone around the suspects home and called in the RCMP emergency response unit.

Police were still negotiating with the suspect on Friday morning.

Residents have been asked to avoid the area.

Camrose is about 100 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.
