Alberta RCMP issued 1,933 tickets during National Safe Driving Week on Dec. 1 to 7.
Mounties say 18 tickets were handed out for careless driving, 18 for distracted driving and 642 for speeding.
One driver who was ticketed for speeding was going 80 km/h over the speed limit, according to police.
A total of 159 immediate roadside sanctions were issued for impaired driving.
Fifty-four impaired drivers were taken off the roads on National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day alone, according to RCMP.
“December is a time for celebration,” Sgt. Darin Turnbull of Alberta RCMP traffic section said in a news release. “Many Albertans will be traveling across the province to see their friends and families. No matter what your holiday plans are, always be mindful of traffic safety. Saving a few minutes is not worth the risk.”
Police are reminding drivers never to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
