An Edmonton Oilers superfan makes a young fan’s day after his drum was confiscated at the last Oilers home game Monday night.
Earlier this week a social media post from someone attending Monday night’s game said her younger brother had to give up his drum — despite seeing several other drummers in the crowd.
Photos posted showing the drum sitting behind a desk.
CityNews reached out to both social media posters as well as the Oilers entertainment group for comment. While the social media posters did not respond, the Oilers said, “We have a number of policies in place for noise makers and other items to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all fans in Rogers Place.
“Based on fan feedback, we recently made the decision to relax this policy during the playoffs for select, pre-approved handheld drums—such as the one used by Superfan Magoo and a few other fans. We are aware of an incident involving a young fan who was not allowed to bring his drum into Rogers Place for Game 3.”
The statement continued by saying, “We allowed the fan to securely store their drum at the Fan Services Centre so they could attend the game, and the drum was subsequently picked up by a family member. We have reached out to the family of the young fan and will be welcoming him back to the game tonight with his drum as our guests.
“We apologize for any miscommunication that occurred and look forward to welcoming him and other Oilers faithful to Game 4. Moving forward, for the remainder of the playoffs, fans are welcome to bring handheld drums to Oilers games as long as they are used in a manner respectful to fellow fans.”
But late Tuesday a video was shared to social media showing the young boy in question, being gifted a new drum by Oilers superfan Magoo, who is a staple at Oilers home games at Rogers Place.
