Wildfire smoke from B.C. blankets Edmonton; air quality at ‘very high risk’

Wildfire smoke from British Columbia made its way to Edmonton Saturday, causing reduced visibility and deleterious air quality.

Environment Canada issued a special air quality advisory warning residents about the poor conditions.

Edmonton’s air quality was at a 10+ (very high risk) by Saturday afternoon. It was bordering between unhealthy and very unhealthy on IQAir’s index.

“Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations. Everyone can take action to reduce their exposure to wildfire smoke,” Environment Canada wrote in its advisory.

The wildfire smoke shrouding Edmonton was expected to clear throughout the day Sunday. Conditions in northwestern Alberta were forecasted to remain poor into Monday and possibly Tuesday.
