Two men charged after Edmonton police watch them break into convenience store

Edmonton police say two men have been charged after allegedly being caught trying to rob a convenience store on Tuesday.

EPS says around 4:47 a.m. on May 28, officers patrolling near 67 Street and 25 Avenue watched a 2006 Ford F250 pull into a parking lot and stop in front of a convenience store.

After stopping, two men wearing masks exited the truck, walked up to the store, and broke in, while the officers continued to watch.

Both men were quickly taken into custody by the officers. Police also were able to confirm the truck being used at the time was stolen.

“This is a terrific example of some excellent proactive work conducted by our patrol officers,” says Acting Staff Sgt. Mike Fehr of EPS Southeast Division. “We’re grateful our officers were able to intervene before anything was stolen from the business.”

Since, 43-year-old Roger Clifford Schmitz and 43-year-old David James Risto Stewart are facing a combined nine charges including breaking and entering.
