Two Edmonton teens arrested for speeding, hit-and-run & assaulting EPS officer

Edmonton police say a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man have been arrested after a short chase and collision. Officers also say they recovered a gun in the vehicle.

It happened Wednesday evening at the intersection of 17 Street and 37A Avenue. Investigators say the two teens ran from the accident scene and allegedly also assaulted a police officer.

At 7:35 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on an Acura in northeast Edmonton, when the vehicle fled, nearly dragging a police officer and striking another as it sped away. Later, the Acura collided with another vehicle, occupied by three people at the intersection of 17 Street and 37A Avenue.

Police note, that the 16-year-old was driving at the time.

The teens face several charges, including dangerous driving causing bodily harm, criminal flight from police, two counts of assault peace officer, hit-and-run collision causing bodily harm, and numerous firearms offences.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported to the other occupants.

Several residents took to Facebook to state they saw police helicopters canvassing the area for the suspects.
