Edmonton’s Sikh community is celebrating the 556th anniversary of the birth of the founder of Sikhism by drumming up support for the food bank.
Food and monetary donations are being collected for the Edmonton Food Bank between Wednesday and Friday, at Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib
Over 40,000 people are accessing the food bank every month and that number is increasing.
“The Gurudwara’s have annually supported our work and this year they are just taking it to that next level to encourage all the public to support the work of Edmonton’s Food Bank and recognize that we can all serve, we can all give and we are all here helping each other,” said Tamisan Bencz-Knight, a spokesperson with the Edmonton Food Bank.
The food bank says these donations help during the holiday season and can last into the new year.
