Sex offender with history of violence released from prison, Edmonton police warn

Edmonton police are warning the public about a violent sex offender being released from custody.

The Edmonton Police Service says it has “reasonable grounds to believe” Darrell Gauthier “will commit another violent offence against someone while in the community.”

Gauthier was released from police custody Saturday and will reside in Edmonton. He is described as five-foot-seven, weighing 190 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair.

Police say the 38-year-old has a history of violence, including against “an adolescent female in a sexual manner.”

“He also assaulted security officers and other male victims with weapons,” EPS adds.

He is subject to certain court-ordered conditions, including abiding by a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, not travelling outside Edmonton, not being around children under the age of 16, and not consuming alcohol.
