Police seek arson suspect after northeast Edmonton house fires in July cause $4.5M in damages

Police are turning to the public in the hopes of identifying an arson suspect who allegedly caused $4.5 million in damages in northeast Edmonton in July.

The Edmonton Police Service says four homes in the Fraser neighbourhood – on Fraser Vista Boulevard Northwest – sustained extensive damage in the July 25 blaze, two of which are considered complete losses.

Investigators say the initial fire at an under-construction home – which quickly spread to other homes due to windy conditions – was started between 5:55 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. that evening. No injuries were reported.

Police are now sharing an image of the arson suspect. He is described as a man between five-foot-six and five-foot-10, wearing a black Levi’s sweater over a grey hoodie, black pants and grey shoes.

“After a lengthy investigation, we are now confident that the individual in this CCTV image is indeed the suspect responsible for the arson,” Det. Roggie Bourque of the EPS Investigative Response Team said in a news release.

Anyone able to identify the suspect is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
