Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) started a girl hockey initiative Thursday morning at the ‘Every Kid Deserves a Shot’ conference in Rogers Place.
According to EOCF, the initiative will provide opportunities and support to young girls who want to play sports and remove the barrier that limits women’s participation.
“Today is really about what we’re trying to do to create a hockey ecosystem that’ll be inclusive, affordable and accessible for all kids across oil country, especially girls,” says Myrna Khan.
Danielle Serdachny, an Edmonton native and a PWHL Ottawa player is named to be the ambassador of the girl initiative. She expressed her excitement to get started and be part of the Oilers Foundation initiative.
“To be the ambassador is a huge honour for me … I hope I can inspire many young girls hopefully someone today … and yeah super excited to get started.” Danielle Serdachny stated.
According to Myrna, any kid can get involved with the initiative through Oilers Hockey School and their partnership with multiple organizations to make hockey affordable and accessible.
