Lethbridge men charged after allegedly trying to sell stolen SUV online

Edmonton police say two men from Lethbridge were arrested after allegedly attempting to sell a stolen vehicle online last week.

Police say the vehicle was a 2021 Mazda CX5.

“Anyone purchasing items online through classifieds or buy and sell platforms should always take precautions,” said Acting Sgt. Rhys Chesney of the EPS Targeted Response to Auto Theft (TRAP) team.

“When purchasing second-hand vehicles, citizens are reminded to verify the Vehicle Identification Number online to determine whether the vehicle is stolen.”

Authorities allege they seized “numerous identity documents that did not belong to either of the suspects” while arresting them.

The EPS says members of the TRAP team were made aware of the alleged crime on July 22.

The suspects, aged 19 and 21, are facing multiple charges including trafficking stolen property. They are scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
