The Edmonton Police Service is investigating anti-Israel graffiti that defaced public sidewalks and a statue at Victoria Promenade between 117 Street and 119 Street.
City of Edmonton maintenance crews were seen cleaning off red paint Wednesday.
Edmonton police confirm to CityNews they are investigating, and the hate crimes unit is being consulted.
The Jewish Federation of Edmonton, in a post on X, said they’ve noticed an increase in this type of graffiti, calling it “unacceptable visible Jew hate”. Asking what action the City of Edmonton will take to prevent this.
In a statement on Wednesday, Cheryl Fereday, Edmonton’s Acting Director of Infrastructure Maintenance said, “The City was made aware of the graffiti via a 311 notification and crews were dispatched to the area for the removal of the graffiti.”
