Police say an officer opened fire on a man who was holding a weapon, possibly a taser, at a gas station in northwest Edmonton Saturday evening.
The Edmonton Police Service says the man remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Alberta’s police watchdog, ASIRT, is investigating the shooting.
EPS says an officer attended the gas station on 93 Street and 144 Avenue around 7:45 p.m. and “immediately called for assistance” after encountering the man with a weapon.
“A confrontation occurred and the officer discharged their firearm, striking the man,” police said in a news release.
Police began “life-saving measures” until paramedics arrived. No officers were injured.
A suspected conducted energy weapon (CEW) was located at the scene, according to EPS.
