Employee dead after truck crashes through Fort McMurray Boston Pizza: RCMP

A woman working in a Boston Pizza in Fort McMurray has been killed after a pickup truck smashed through the building Saturday.

RCMP say it happened just before noon at the pizza restaurant in the downtown area.

Police say a Ford F350 drove into the restaurant and caused “significant structural damage” to the building at Franklin Avenue and Richards Street

They say the woman, a 24-year-old employee, was struck by the pickup. She was rushed to hospital but later died from her injuries.

Mounties say the driver, the lone occupant of the truck, remains in custody with charges pending.

They added investigators with the RCMP and workplace safety staff will most likely remain at the scene until Sunday.

“The Alberta RCMP give our sincere condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of the deceased. This is a profound loss of life for the family, and the community as a whole,” the release reads.

Police say more information about the charges and the driver’s identity is anticipated.
