As Jasper residents return home, the City of Edmonton’s Rapid Emergency Support Terminal (REST) will close Friday at 4:00 p.m.
Since July 23, 2,826 Jasper wildfire evacuees registered at the Edmonton evacuee reception centre, which co-ordinated accommodations and funding for food, water and other essential items.
Interim City Manager Eddie Robar said, “We’re proud to support our neighbours in their time of need. We’re relieved that Jasperites can return to their community, and we’ll keep them in our thoughts as they begin the recovery and rebuilding process.”
In a news release Thursday, the City of Edmonton stated that Jasper residents and hotel staff coordinated by the Canadian Red Cross should check out by 11 a.m. on September 3.
Registered evacuees’ access to transit and other City amenities will also end on September 3.
