Edmonton shootings down 46% this year

The Edmonton Police Service is touting another month where shootings did not increase compared to the same time last year.

Police say November marked the ninth consecutive month where shootings either decreased or remained at the same level. There were six reported shootings in November 2024 compared to 11 in November 2023.

Shootings are also down 46 per cent so far this year (111) compared to 2023 (204).

In all six shootings last month, police say there was the potential for innocent bystanders to be harmed. Of the six, one was fatal, three resulted in injuries and five were targeted.

EPS add they seized 61 firearms in November. A total of 755 firearms were seized in 2024, compared to the 745 firearms seized over the same time period in 2023.
