Death of inmate, 26, at Edmonton Remand Centre ruled a homicide

The death of a 26-year-old inmate at the Edmonton Remand Centre has been ruled a homicide.

The Edmonton Police Service says Nathaniel Burchant was injured in a fight with another inmate Wednesday afternoon. He died of those injuries in hospital.

Thursday’s autopsy determined Burchant died of a blunt head injury, and the manner of death is homicide.

The suspect is in custody and charges are pending, according to police.

An investigation is ongoing.
