Alberta’s police watchdog — the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) — is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened on May 25.
ASIRT says around 7:44 p.m. on May 25, as an Edmonton Police Service officer entered a Shell gas station along 144 Avenue to use the washroom, they were approached by a man and had a conversation.
During the conversation, the man reportedly took out a stun gun, then left the store.
Reports indicate the officer followed the man out of the store, and ordered him to get on the ground.

It is believed after the man was told to get on the ground, he turned and reached toward the officer, and the officer pulled and fired their gun.
Following this, the man was provided emergency medical care by additional responding officers around 7:47 p.m., before being taken to a hospital by paramedics.
EPS were able to find and seize a prohibited weapon at the scene following the shooting.
Due to the nature of the incident, ASIRT was informed and has begun an investigation into the actions taken by the officer.
ASIRT is asking that anyone who has any information contact investigators at 780-644-1483.
