Alberta to upgrade access to high-speed internet in Strathcona County

The Alberta government says Strathcona County is getting high-speed internet.

In an announcement Wednesday afternoon, the province says roughly 4,300 homes will benefit from the latest $380,000 investment between Alberta and Ottawa.

“High-speed internet is the backbone of our communities, economies and daily lives. This investment is a testament to our unwavering commitment to bridge the digital divide. By connecting every corner of our province, we’re empowering Albertans to thrive, whether it’s through education, business, healthcare, or simply staying connected with loved ones,” said Nate Glubish, Minister of Technology and Innovation.

The province is hoping their investment will directly benefit education and health care within the county, as well as small businesses and agriculture.

The funding is also part of the province’s 2021 broadband strategy, which committed $390 million to expand internet services to rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

The communities of Ardrossan, Armena, Bruce, Collingwood Cove, Cooking Lake, Half Moon Estates, Holden, Kingman, Sherwood Park and Tofield are all expected to receive better access to high-speed internet.
