2 people, 3 firefighters taken to the hospital after apartment fire in northeast Edmonton

Two people were taken to the hospital and are in critical condition after a fire broke out at an apartment in northeast Edmonton on Saturday night. The damage from the apartment complex fire is estimated at $15 million, according to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.

The fire was reported around 8:08 p.m. in an apartment complex on Hermitage Road and Huffman Crescent. Crews arrived on scene at 8:12 p.m. and at 8:25 p.m. the fire was upgraded to a second alarm, stated EFRS.

Two people were hospitalized due to life-threatening injuries and three firefighters were transported to hospital for precautionary reasons, said EFRS.

Photos show substantial damage to the roof and top floor of the complex. The fire was called under control at 11:50 p.m. and called out at 6:25 a.m. on Sunday.

EFRS said that the cause of fire is under investigation.
