Federal transportation safety investigators are en route to western Alberta, after a Canadian National Railway (CN) freight train derailed in the region early Saturday morning.
About 20 cars on the westbound train derailed near Hinton, Alta., around 5:30 a.m., according to a Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) spokesperson.
No dangerous goods were involved and no injuries were reported, the spokesperson said.
TSB officials, which investigate air, marine, pipeline and rail transportation incidents, will be gathering information and “assessing the occurrence,” according to a news release issued by the agency Saturday afternoon.
CN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
TSB investigations aim to advance transportation safety, not assign fault or determine liability.
The town of Hinton is about 270 kilometres west of Edmonton.
