Edmonton police Chief Dale McFee will leave his post in February.
McFee, who has been chief since 2019, plans to retire after six years in charge of the police service, the Edmonton police commission said in a statement Thursday.
“Thank you to the commission who set the vision we have delivered on and fought with us through some tumultuous times,” McFee said in a statement.
“Together we have been impatient for progress, but steadfast in a shared belief about the EPS and the community we serve. This support was essential in allowing us to do our critical work.”
McFee’s retirement will be effective as of Feb. 21.
A hiring process for a new chief will be established in the coming months, the police commission said.
More to come.
