Adult fatally stabbed at Edmonton Corn Maze, RCMP say

The Edmonton Corn Maze closed Wednesday, after someone was fatally stabbed at the attraction Tuesday evening.

Parkland RCMP were called about a stabbing at the corn maze near Spruce Grove, Alta., a city about 30 kilometres west of Edmonton, shortly after 7 p.m. MT, police said in a news release.

The release offered little information about what transpired, but it said responding officers found an adult dead when they arrived. Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, an RCMP spokesperson, confirmed to CBC News Wednesday that the victim was found in the maze.

“Our hearts are with the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the Edmonton Corn Maze said in a statement to CBC News Wednesday.

“We also extend our deepest concern and support to our staff and guests who have been affected by this tragic event.”

Mounties arrested a suspect Tuesday, police said, noting the person had stayed on site.

The suspect and victim knew each other, police said.

The Edmonton Corn Maze, which has operated since 2001, was closed Wednesday and is offering refunds to people who had tickets.

The maze plans to “regroup and will reopen in the near future,” the group’s statement said.
