Security guard stabbed in ‘unprovoked assault’ near Commonwealth Stadium: police

Edmonton police are looking for a man who allegedly stabbed a security guard near Commonwealth Stadium earlier this month in what authorities are describing as an “unprovoked assault.”

The Edmonton Police Service says the guard sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the June 2 stabbing.

Police say the guard approached officers around 1:15 a.m. at Muttart Xing NW and Stadium Road and told them he had been stabbed. He told them he had been doing his rounds at a nearby construction site when he “became involved in a verbal confrontation” with two men and a woman.

“One of the male suspects then stabbed the security guard prior to the group fleeing the location,” police allege.

EPS is looking for that suspect and released a sketch of him. He is described as a man 30 to 33 years old, five-feet tall weighing about 110 lbs., with dark-coloured hair, large lips and gapped teeth.

Police add the suspect was wearing a red hat, black pants, black jacket and a white hoodie with a design on the front and a dark jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
