Man on scooter killed collision with SUV in Old Strathcona: police

Edmonton police say a 40-year-old man riding a scooter was fatally struck by an SUV in Old Strathcona early Saturday morning.

The Edmonton Police Service says it happened around 2:35 a.m. on 85 Avenue near 106 Street.

Police say the victim, who was operating a motorized scooter, was going east on 85 Avenue toward 106 Street against a stop sign.

“At the same time, a 27-year-old male motorist in an SUV was travelling northbound on 106 Street when it collided with the scooter,” police said in a news release.

Police add the SUV driver called 911 and provided first aid until paramedics arrived.

The 40-year-old was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Major collision officers are investigating. Neither speed or alcohol are considered factors.
