Retired mechanic snags SECOND massive lottery win in three years

Winning must have felt like deja vu for one lottery winner who hit the jackpot for the second time in three years — he even won the same amount.

Richard Lowe is a Waterdown, Ont., resident and father of one. A retired mechanic, Lowe has enjoyed playing the lottery for years. His first win was in September 2022, when he won the Crossword Deluxe top prize, netting himself a $250,000 prize.

Recalling the moment he learned that he won, he said, “I saw ten words come up and thought I won $25,000 at first. When I scanned it on the OLG app and saw $250,000, I was very calm about it.”

While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque, he said that he would save his winnings and use some of it to help his son buy a car.

Three years later, Lowe found himself in a similar situation when he purchased an Instant Cashingo ticket. He was at home playing his ticket when he learned he had won the game’s top prize. Even though he knew he had won, Lowe said he still took the ticket to the store to confirm his win.

“At first, it didn’t really sink in,” he recalled. “It took some time for me to accept that I’d won again.”

Lowe beat unbelievable odds when he won the game’s top prize worth $250,000.

“I shared the incredible news with my family and friends, and they were all in disbelief,” he shared.

While at the prize centre for the second time, Lowe said the money would go towards investments but also plans to treat himself to a well-earned vacation. It seems it’s hard to shake off the disbelief after winning for the second time.

“Winning feels great!” he shared. “I think it will truly sink in once the cheque is in the bank.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Fortinos on Hamilton Street North in Waterdown.

Another Ontario lottery player proved that it is possible to win the lottery not twice but three times.

Retiree Vincent Charlemagne won $30 million in 2013, $1 million in 2021, and $100,000 in 2024.
