Canadian couple off to Palm Springs after HUGE $54M lotto win

An Alberta couple is $54 million richer after hitting the massive Lotto 6/49 jackpot in late December.

Sandra and Travis Fredland of Grande Prairie say they’re still wrapping their heads around the win.

“I must have checked the ticket about three times at the terminal!” Travis said. “I took it to the cashier and said, ‘Check this one because there’s something odd with it!’”

That “something odd” turned out to be their $54 million windfall.

“I’ve played for a lot of years,” Travis said. “I saw the number, but I still wasn’t believing it!”

The couple already has a few ideas for how to spend their windfall, but they’re in no rush.

“Retirement, of course,” said Sandra.

“We’re going to Palm Springs to lay low and enjoy the win,” said Travis. “We’ll take our time to figure out how to spend this.”

Their family is just as excited.

“Our sons are thrilled,” he added. “Our family is pretty happy about the whole thing.”

“It’s overwhelming,” admitted Sandra. “We’re definitely going to need to take some time to figure out what’s next.”

Sandra and Travis Fredland purchased their winning Lotto 6/49 ticket from Westgate New Horizon Co-op in Grande Prairie. Their numbers, 35353629-01, were drawn in the Dec. 28 Gold Ball draw.
