Edmonton’s Alphonso Davies agrees to new deal with Bayern Munich: report

Canadian superstar Alphonso Davies is staying in Germany.

The 24-year-old left-back has agreed to a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Bayern Munich that will keep him with the German powerhouse until the summer of 2030, according to a report in The Athletic.

The Edmonton native was due to become a free agent this summer and was reportedly being pursued by clubs all around the world, but instead opted to remain with the club he won a Champions League trophy with.

The captain of the Canadian national team, Davies is one of the most decorated Canadians in football. He joined Bayern in 2018 after beginning his pro career with the Vancouver Whitecaps and became a starter in 2019. In total he has made 220 appearances across all competitions for Bayern Munich, scoring 12 goals.

While competing internationally, Davies helped Canada break a long drought to qualify for the World Cup in 2022.
